Our Story

Providing hope and healing for 25 years

Since the very beginning, we have committed to delivering an unmatched summer camp experience. We have always believed that every child affected by pediatric cancer — from patients battling an active diagnosis, to survivors in remission, to siblings affected by the experience — can let go of cancer and just be kids. At Camp Wapiyapi, we have established a legacy and community where they can laugh and play with others who cherish them just as they are.

The beginning of hope

The inspiration came from University of Colorado medical students in the early 1990s who believed every child deserves an unforgettable camp experience. Seeing how childhood cancer steals a child’s sense of normalcy for both patients and siblings, they created a nurturing environment that provides respite and an additional circle from which families may draw the strength for continued healing.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and for the safety of our campers, Camp Wapiyapi introduced a 100% online camp that allowed families to connect with the community in a safe, virtual format. Online activities included a virtual tour of Harry Potter's London as well as an animal sacntuary, plus plenty of volunteer-led crafts and games!
